Private Investigators love catfishing or as we now like to call it (one subject recently referred to us) act as sex decoys. Catfishing is a term used to describe deceptive behavior by an individual who utilizes social media outlets, online gaming, internet dating sites, and/or various types of chat rooms for nefarious purposes.
What is catfishing?
“Catfishing is a deceptive activity where a person creates a sockpuppet presence or fake identity on a social networking service, usually targeting a specific victim for abuse or fraud. Catfishing is often employed for romance scams on dating websites.”
Well it is where a person uses a false identity (not just I am thin and love to travel) but my name is Jane and I am educated and rich. I think dating sites are a place where most people seem to tell some whoppers, even lying about age and gender. What if I take ;ictures of your ex with her new lover, and he is a registered sex offender which he lied about. We have had accounts on escort websites, swingers (hi neighbor), sugar daddy websites, popular dating sites and so many more. Despite the popularity of online dating, nearly 60% of online profiles are fake. Not all of those fake profiles are scammers, as some people just prefer to conceal their true identities.
Virtual Cheating
So, what is better than catching somebody cheating (emotionally or physically) and collecting your fee and moving on to the next case? You see, if we find you with an active profile on a dating, sex, swinger, sugar-baby website and you are in a monogamous relationship (or at least the other person thinks you are), it is like catching you in a lie or in somebody else’s arms. Case closed for most clients. Using dating sites or hook-up apps while in a relationship is cheating, and we are good at catching cheaters.
So next time you think somebody isn’t watching because you think your lies or gaslighting have thrown your partner off your trail, guess again. It might be your friendly neighborhood private investigator showing up as a “sex decoy” at the bar, or catfishing the catfish.
